Sazerac Rye Recipe

Preparation Steps

   Chill the Glass

   Begin by chilling an Old Fashioned glass by filling it with ice water. Set it aside while you prepare the drink.

   Muddle Sugar and Bitters

   In a mixing glass, place the sugar cube and add the Peychaud's bitters. Muddle them together until the sugar is dissolved.

   Add Rye Whiskey

   Pour in 2 oz of rye whiskey into the mixing glass with the muddled sugar and bitters.

   Add Ice and Stir

   Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir the mixture for about 20-30 seconds until well chilled.

   Prepare the Glass with Absinthe

   Discard the ice water from the chilled Old Fashioned glass. Add 0.5 oz of absinthe to the glass, swirling it around to coat the inside, and then discard any excess.

   Strain the Cocktail

   Using a strainer, pour the chilled rye whiskey mixture into the prepared glass.

   Garnish

   Twist a lemon peel strip over the drink to release its oils, then drop it into the glass as a garnish.
