Horchata

Method

Horchata Preparation

  1. 1

    Soak the Rice

In a bowl, combine the long-grain white rice and the cinnamon stick. Add 2 cups of water and let it soak for at least 4 hours or overnight for best results.

  2. 2

    Blend the Mixture

After soaking, drain the rice and cinnamon stick. In a blender, combine the soaked rice, cinnamon stick, and the remaining 2 cups of water. Blend until smooth and well combined.

  3. 3

    Strain the Mixture

Pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a pitcher, pressing to extract all the liquid. Discard the solids.

  4. 4

    Add Sweeteners

Stir in the sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Mix until well combined and refrigerate until chilled.

Berries Preparation

  1. 5

    Prepare the Berries

Rinse the fresh strawberries and blueberries under cold water. Slice the strawberries into halves or quarters, depending on their size.

  2. 6

    Sweeten the Berries

In a bowl, combine the strawberries and blueberries. Drizzle honey over the berries and gently toss to coat.

  3. 7

    Garnish

Transfer the sweetened berries to a serving bowl and garnish with mint leaves.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve the Dish

Pour the chilled horchata into glasses and serve alongside the sweetened berries for a refreshing dessert.
