Method

Otras Cositas Mas

  1. 1

    Soaking the Beans

Begin by rinsing the black beans under cold water to remove any debris. Place the beans in a large bowl and cover them with 6 cups of water. Allow the beans to soak overnight, or for at least 8 hours.

  2. 2

    Cooking the Beans

After soaking, drain and rinse the beans again. In a large pot, add the soaked beans and cover them with fresh water, about 4 cups. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Add the garlic cloves, chopped onion, cumin, and salt. Simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beans are tender.

  3. 3

    Mashing the Beans

Once the beans are cooked, drain any excess liquid if necessary, reserving some for later use. Use a potato masher or a fork to mash the beans to your desired consistency, adding reserved liquid gradually if needed to achieve a creamy texture.

  4. 4

    Frying the Beans

In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the mashed beans to the skillet. Fry the beans for about 5-10 minutes, stirring frequently until they are heated through and slightly crispy on the edges.

  5. 5

    Finishing Touch

Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the chopped fresh cilantro. Squeeze lime juice over the top to taste before serving.
