Method

Cake Directions

1

Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

2

Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

3

Mix Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.

4

Combine Mixtures

Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin.

5

Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

6

Cool the Cakes

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from the pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Raspberry Sauce Directions

7

Prepare the Sauce

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the fresh raspberries, granulated sugar, and lemon juice.

8

Cook the Sauce

Cook the mixture while stirring gently until the raspberries break down and the sauce thickens, about 10-15 minutes.

9

Strain the Sauce (optional)

If you prefer a smoother sauce, strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove the seeds. Allow to cool.
