Combine Ingredients
In a mixing glass, combine the bourbon or rye whiskey, simple syrup, and Angostura bitters.

Add Ice
Add three ice cubes to the mixing glass.

Stir
Stir the mixture gently for about 15-20 seconds until well chilled.

Prepare Glass
Strain the mixture into a chilled Old-Fashioned glass or rocks glass.

Twist the orange peel over the drink to release its oils, then drop it into the glass as a garnish.
