Method

Fish

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beer Batter

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually add the beer, whisking until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.

  2. 2

    Heat the Oil

In a deep fryer or a large pot, heat the oil to 350°F (175°C). Make sure there is enough oil to submerge the cod fillets.

  3. 3

    Coat and Fry the Cod

Dip each cod fillet into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off. Carefully place the battered fillets into the hot oil and fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Fries

  1. 4

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel the russet potatoes and cut them into thick fries. Rinse them under cold water to remove excess starch, then pat them dry with a paper towel.

  2. 5

    Heat the Oil for Frying

In a separate pot or deep fryer, heat the oil to 350°F (175°C).

  3. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the cut potatoes to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 4-6 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with salt immediately.

Coleslaw

  1. 7

    Prepare the Vegetables

Shred the green cabbage and the carrot. You can use a food processor or a box grater for this.

  2. 8

    Mix the Dressing

In a large bowl, combine the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until the dressing is smooth.

  3. 9

    Combine and Refrigerate

Add the shredded cabbage and carrot to the dressing, tossing until well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to let the flavors meld.

Serving

  1. 10

    Plate the Meal

On a large plate, serve the fried cod alongside a generous portion of fries and a side of coleslaw. Provide tartar sauce or cocktail sauce for dipping.
