Method
Cooking Directions
- 1
Prepare the Calamari
Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
- 2
Marinate
Place the calamari rings in a bowl and cover them with buttermilk. Let them marinate for about 30 minutes.
- 3
Mix the Coating
In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Coat the Calamari
Remove the calamari from the buttermilk and let the excess drip off. Dredge the calamari rings in the flour mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated.
- 6
Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the coated calamari rings to the hot oil in batches, frying them for about 2-3 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried calamari with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with spicy marinara sauce.
