Method

Preparation of Fish

  1. 1

    Prepare the Breading Station

In three separate bowls, set up a breading station with flour in the first bowl, beaten eggs in the second bowl, and breadcrumbs mixed with house spice, salt, and pepper in the third bowl.

  2. 2

    Bread the Haddock

Dredge each haddock fillet in flour, shaking off excess. Dip into the beaten eggs, then coat with the seasoned breadcrumbs. Set aside on a plate.

Cooking the Fish

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.

  2. 4

    Fry the Haddock

Carefully place the breaded haddock fillets in the hot oil. Fry for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Preparing the Fiery Habanero Slaw

  1. 5

    Mix the Slaw Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine shredded cabbage, shredded carrot, minced habanero, lime juice, olive oil, and salt. Toss well to combine.

  2. 6

    Add Cilantro

Gently fold in the chopped cilantro and set aside to marinate for at least 15 minutes.

Making the Lemon Tartar Sauce

  1. 7

    Combine Tartar Ingredients

In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, lemon juice, lemon zest, and chopped capers. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Serving

  1. 8

    Plate the Dish

Serve the fried haddock fillets with a generous portion of fiery habanero slaw on the side and a dollop of lemon tartar sauce on top or alongside.
