Fried Chicken
Method
Preparation
- 1
Marinate the Chicken
In a large bowl, pour the buttermilk over the chicken pieces. Cover and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or overnight for best results.
- 2
Prepare the Flour Mixture
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Mix well.
- 3
Bread the Chicken
Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, ensuring it's well coated. Shake off any excess flour.
- 4
Fry the Chicken
In a large skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the chicken pieces. Fry for about 12-15 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).

Prepare the Sides
For the green beans, steam or sauté in butter until cooked but still crisp. For mashed potatoes, peel and boil the potatoes until tender, then mash with milk and season with salt and pepper to taste. Prepare gravy as per package instructions or your favorite homemade recipe. If using biscuit mix, prepare according to package instructions.
- 6
Serve
On a plate, serve the fried chicken alongside the green beans, mashed potatoes with gravy, and a biscuit.
