Country Fried Steak

Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Pound the beef round steaks to about 1/2-inch thickness. Season with salt, black pepper, and paprika.

  2. 2

    Dredging Station

Set up a dredging station with three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs mixed with milk, and the last one with seasoned flour (flour mixed with salt, pepper, and paprika).

  3. 3

    Bread the Steaks

Dip each steak in the flour, then in the egg mixture, and finally in the seasoned flour, pressing to adhere.

  4. 4

    Fry the Steaks

Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the breaded steaks for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  5. 5

    Make the Gravy

In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add butter. Once melted, whisk in the flour for the gravy and cook for 1 minute. Gradually add beef broth while whisking until smooth. Cook until thickened. Season with black pepper to taste.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve the country fried steak warm, topped with gravy.
