Brewing Directions
- 1
Mashing the Grains
In a large brew kettle, heat 5 gallons of water to 165°F (74°C). Add the Pilsner and Carapils malts to the water and stir well. Maintain the temperature at around 150°F (65°C) for 60 minutes to allow the enzymes to convert the starches into sugars.
- 2
Sparging
After mashing, sparge the grains by rinsing them with hot water (around 170°F or 77°C) until you collect about 6 gallons of wort in your brew kettle.
- 3
Boiling the Wort
Bring the wort to a boil. Once boiling, add the Hallertau hops and boil for 60 minutes. About 15 minutes before the end of the boil, add the Orange Blossom Honey to the wort.
- 4
Cooling the Wort
After the 60-minute boil, cool the wort quickly using a wort chiller or ice bath until it reaches about 70°F (21°C).
- 5
Fermentation
Transfer the cooled wort into a sanitized fermentation vessel. Add the Pilsner yeast and seal the vessel with an airlock. Allow it to ferment at a stable temperature of around 65-70°F (18-21°C) for about 2 weeks.
