Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Nut Filling
In a food processor, combine the walnuts, pistachios, sugar, and ground cinnamon. Pulse until the nuts are finely chopped but not completely ground. Set aside.
- 2
Melt the Butter
In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and let cool slightly.
Assembling Baklava

- 4
Add the Nut Filling
Spread half of the nut filling evenly over the layered filo. Continue to layer 4 more sheets of filo, brushing each with butter. Add the remaining nut filling.
- 5
- 6
Cut the Baklava
Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes. This will make it easier to serve once baked.
Baking and Syrup
- 7
Bake the Baklava
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 45-50 minutes, until the top is golden brown and crisp.
- 8
- 9
Drizzle the Syrup
Once the baklava is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the cooled syrup over the hot baklava. Allow it to soak for at least 4 hours, or overnight, for best flavor.
