Pulled Pork Ingredients

Method

Pulled Pork Directions

1

Prepare the Pork

Start by trimming excess fat from the pork shoulder, leaving some for flavor.

2

Make the Spice Rub

In a bowl, mix together the brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. This will be your dry rub.

3

Season the Pork

Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder, ensuring to cover every surface. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes to absorb the flavors.

4

Prepare the Cooking Method

You can cook the pork in a slow cooker, oven, or smoker. If using a slow cooker, set it to low; if using an oven, preheat to 300°F (150°C); if using a smoker, set it to 225°F (107°C).

5

Cook the Pork

Place the seasoned pork shoulder in the cooker or oven. If using a slow cooker, add the apple cider vinegar for moisture. Cook for about 8-10 hours in a slow cooker or 4-5 hours in an oven or smoker until the meat is tender and shreds easily.

6

Shred the Pork

Once cooked, remove the pork from the cooker and let it rest for about 15 minutes. Using two forks, shred the meat into bite-sized pieces.

7

Serve

Serve the pulled pork on buns with BBQ sauce and any preferred toppings.
