For the Buttermilk Biscuits

Method

For the Buttermilk Biscuits

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  2. 2

    Cut in the Butter

Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  3. 3

    Add Buttermilk

Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

  4. 4

    Shape the Dough

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick.

  5. 5

    Cut the Biscuits

Using a biscuit cutter or a glass, cut out biscuits and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Gather the scraps and repeat until all dough is used.

  6. 6

    Bake

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake the biscuits for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

For the Sausage Patties

  1. 7

    Prepare the Sausage Mixture

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground sausage, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes, and salt. Mix well using your hands or a spoon until fully combined.

  2. 8

    Form the Patties

Divide the sausage mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 1/2 inch thick.

  3. 9

    Cook the Patties

In a skillet over medium heat, add a small amount of butter. Once melted, add the sausage patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked through and browned.

For Assembly

  1. 10

    Assemble the Sandwiches

Once the biscuits are baked and the sausage patties are cooked, slice the biscuits in half. Place a sausage patty on the bottom half of each biscuit, top with a slice of cheddar cheese, and cover with the top half of the biscuit.

  2. 11

    Serve

Serve the sausage biscuit sandwiches warm, with optional toppings like hot sauce or additional butter if desired.
