Caramelized Onions

Prepare the Onions
Slice the onions thinly to ensure even cooking.

Cook the Onions
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 15-20 minutes until they are golden brown and caramelized. Remove from heat and set aside.

Prepare the Fries
Wash and peel the potatoes if desired. Cut them into fries or wedges.

Fry the Potatoes
In a large bowl, toss the cut potatoes with olive oil and salt. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Spread the potatoes on a baking sheet in a single layer and bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.

Add Cheese
In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cover to melt.

Toast the Buns
While the cheese is melting, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster.

Assemble the Burger
Spread Thousand Island dressing on the bottom half of each bun. Add the burger patty with melted cheese, followed by caramelized onions, lettuce, sliced tomato, and pickles. Top with the other half of the bun.
