Method
Fried Chicken
- 1
Marinate the Chicken
In a large bowl, combine chicken pieces and buttermilk. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight to tenderize and flavor the chicken.
- 2
Prepare the Coating
In a shallow dish, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper together.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Coat the Chicken
Remove chicken from buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture until well coated.
- 5
Fry the Chicken
Carefully place the coated chicken pieces in the hot oil. Fry for about 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
- 6
Drain and Rest
Remove chicken from oil and place on a wire rack or paper towels to drain excess oil. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Mashed Potatoes
- 7
- 8
Country Gravy
- 9
- 10
Add Milk
Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring no lumps form. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 5 minutes.
- 11
Season the Gravy
Stir in salt and black pepper. Keep warm until ready to serve.
Green Beans
- 12
Prepare the Green Beans
Trim the ends of fresh green beans and rinse under cold water.
- 13
Cook the Green Beans
In a pot of boiling salted water, blanch green beans for about 3-4 minutes until tender-crisp. Drain and immediately place in ice water to stop cooking.
- 14
Buttermilk Biscuits
- 15
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- 16
Mix the Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 17
Add Buttermilk
Pour in the buttermilk and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- 18
Shape the Biscuits
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead a few times. Pat into a 1-inch thick round and cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter.
- 19
Bake the Biscuits
Place the biscuits on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
Beverages
- 20
Serve the Beverages
Chill iced tea or serve soft drinks over ice. Offer alongside the meal.
