Sausage Gravy Ingredients

Method

Biscuit Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Whisk together until well blended.

  3. 3

    Cut in Butter

Add 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. 4

    Add Milk and Cream

Pour in 3 tablespoons of milk and 1 cup of heavy cream. Stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

  5. 5

    Shape the Biscuits

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently pat it to about 1-inch thickness. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits.

  6. 6

    Bake the Biscuits

Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Sausage Gravy Directions

  1. 7

    Cook the Sausage

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook 1 pound of breakfast sausage until browned and fully cooked, breaking it apart with a spatula.

  2. 8

    Make the Roux

Sprinkle 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour over the cooked sausage in the skillet. Stir constantly for about 1-2 minutes until the flour is well incorporated and begins to brown slightly.

  3. 9

    Add Milk

Gradually pour in 2 cups of milk, stirring constantly. Bring the mixture to a simmer, allowing it to thicken.

  4. 10

    Season the Gravy

Add 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and red pepper flakes to taste. Stir well to combine.

  5. 11

    Serve

Once the gravy has thickened, serve it hot over the freshly baked biscuits.
