Caramelized Onions

Prepare the onions
Thinly slice the large onion and set aside.

Cook the onions
In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of butter and 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they start to soften.

Add sugar and vinegar
Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of balsamic vinegar over the onions. Continue to cook for an additional 15-20 minutes, stirring frequently, until the onions are deep golden brown and caramelized.

Remove from heat
Once caramelized, remove from heat and set aside.

Prepare the beef mixture
In a mixing bowl, combine 1 pound of ground beef, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon of onion powder. Mix until just combined.

Form the patties
Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about ¾ inch thick.

Assemble the sliders
Toast the slider buns lightly if desired. Place each patty on a bun, top with caramelized onions, and cover with the top bun.

Serve the sliders warm with your favorite condiments or sides.
