For the Fish and Chips
Method
Preparation Steps
- 1
Prepare the Fries
Cook the frozen French fries according to package instructions until golden brown and crispy. Set aside and keep warm.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually add the beer, mixing until smooth and free of lumps.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep fryer or large heavy pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Fry the Fish
Dip each fish fillet into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place the battered fish into the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary, until golden brown and cooked through (about 4-5 minutes per side).
- 5
Drain and Serve
Remove the fish from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with fries and tartar sauce on the side.
