Pie and Toppings

Method

Preparation and Baking

  1. 1

    Prepare the Apples

Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin pieces. In a large bowl, toss the apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and half of the caramel sauce. Set aside.

  2. 2

    Candied Walnuts

In a pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add walnuts and stir in the remaining sugar and vanilla extract. Cook until the walnuts are golden and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.

  3. 3

    Assemble the Pie

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a pie dish, layer the candied walnuts at the bottom. Pour the apple mixture on top of the walnuts, spreading evenly. Cover with the pie crust, cutting slits for steam to escape.

  4. 4

    Bake the Pie

Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.

  5. 5

    Serve

Let the pie cool slightly before inverting onto a serving plate. Drizzle with remaining caramel sauce before serving.
