Preparation Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Apples

Peel, core, and slice the Granny Smith apples. In a large bowl, mix the apples with granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Caramel Layer

In a skillet, melt the butter and brown sugar together over medium heat until combined and slightly bubbly. Pour this mixture into the bottom of a 9-inch pie pan.

  3. 3

    Arrange the Apples

Layer the apple mixture evenly over the caramel in the pie pan.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Batter

In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and milk. Mix well until smooth.

  5. 5

    Combine and Bake

Pour the batter over the apple layer in the pie pan. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool and Serve

Allow the pie to cool for about 10 minutes. Carefully invert the pie onto a serving plate, so the apples and caramel are on top. Serve warm with ice cream if desired.
