Cook the Bacon
In a large pot, cook the diced bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pot.

Add Potatoes and Broth
Add the diced potatoes, chicken broth, thyme, bay leaf, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for about 15 minutes or until the potatoes are tender.

Add Clams and Cream
Stir in the clams and heavy cream. Let the chowder simmer for another 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Serve
Remove the bay leaf, adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if needed, and serve hot, garnished with the crispy bacon.
