Pretzel Dough

Honey Mustard Dip

Cheddar Mornay Sauce

Method

Making the Pretzel Dough

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a large bowl, dissolve brown sugar and yeast in warm water. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Ingredients

Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until the dough starts to come together.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let the Dough Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Shaping and Boiling the Pretzels

  1. 5

    Shape the Pretzels

Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each piece into a long rope. Twist into a pretzel shape.

  2. 6

    Boil the Pretzels

In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil and stir in the baking soda. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 7

    Salt the Pretzels

Sprinkle coarse sea salt on top of each pretzel.

Baking the Pretzels

  1. 8

    Bake

Bake the pretzels in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

  2. 9

    Cool

Remove the pretzels from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack.

Making Honey Mustard Dip

  1. 10

    Mix Dip Ingredients

In a small bowl, whisk together honey and yellow mustard until well combined.

Making Cheddar Mornay Sauce

  1. 11

    Prepare Roux

In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for about 1-2 minutes.

  2. 12

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in milk, cooking until the sauce thickens.

  3. 13

    Add Cheese

Stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
