Southern Fried Shrimp

Method

Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Coleslaw

In a large bowl, combine shredded cabbage and carrot. In a separate bowl, mix mayonnaise, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and toss to coat. Set aside in the refrigerator to chill.

  2. 2

    Make the Remoulade

In a bowl, mix together mayonnaise, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, hot sauce, and chopped parsley. Adjust seasoning to taste and set aside.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Shrimp

In a shallow dish, whisk together buttermilk and egg. In another shallow dish, mix flour, cornmeal, Cajun seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Dip each shrimp first in the buttermilk mixture, then dredge in the flour mixture, ensuring an even coating.

  4. 4

    Fry the Shrimp

In a large pot or deep skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the breaded shrimp in batches, frying until golden brown (about 2-3 minutes per side). Remove and drain on paper towels.

  5. 5

    Serve

Plate the fried shrimp alongside the coleslaw and serve with the house lemon remoulade for dipping.
