Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

In a bowl, combine shaved steak with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Toss well to coat the meat with the seasoning.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Vegetables

Slice the mushrooms and onion thinly. Set aside.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Cook the Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and mushrooms. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes, or until the vegetables are soft and slightly caramelized. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.

  2. 4

    Cook the Steak

In the same skillet, add the seasoned shaved steak over medium-high heat. Cook for about 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the steak is cooked through.

  3. 5

    Combine Ingredients

Return the sautéed mushrooms and onions to the skillet with the steak. Mix well and let them cook together for an additional 2 minutes.

  4. 6

    Melt the Cheese

Layer the provolone cheese over the steak and vegetable mixture. Cover the skillet with a lid and let it sit for about 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Prepare the Sub Rolls

While the cheese is melting, slice the sub rolls lengthwise. If desired, lightly toast the insides on a separate skillet or oven.

  2. 8

    Fill the Rolls

Once the cheese is melted, carefully spoon the steak and cheese mixture into each sub roll. Serve hot.
