Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cheese

Cut each mozzarella cheese stick in half if desired, to create shorter sticks.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In three separate shallow bowls, place the flour in one, beaten eggs in the second, and breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, oregano, salt, and black pepper in the third.

  3. 3

    Bread the Cheese Sticks

Dip each mozzarella stick first in the flour, shaking off the excess, then in the beaten eggs, and finally in the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring they are well coated. Repeat for all cheese sticks.

  4. 4

    Chill the Coated Sticks

Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes to help the coating adhere during frying.

  5. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  6. 6

    Fry the Cheese Sticks

Carefully add the frozen mozzarella sticks to the hot oil in batches, frying until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

For the Marinara Sauce

  1. 7

    Sauté Garlic

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 8

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes, and add dried basil, salt, sugar, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.

  3. 9

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer, reduce heat to low, and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 10

    Adjust Seasoning

Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning with extra salt or sugar if needed.
