Method
For the Fried Pickles
- 1
Prepare the Pickles
Drain the dill pickle chips and pat them dry with paper towels. This helps to remove excess moisture and ensures a crispier coating.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
- 3
Mix Wet Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk until well combined.
- 4
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined; do not overmix.
- 5
Heat the Oil
In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 6
Fry the Pickles
Dip each pickle chip in the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place the battered pickles in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried pickles with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve warm.
For the Cajun Ranch Dipping Sauce
- 8
Mix the Sauce
In a small bowl, combine the ranch dressing and Cajun seasoning. Stir until well blended.
- 9
Serve
Serve the Cajun ranch dipping sauce alongside the fried pickles for dipping.
