Preparation
- 1
Season the Pork
In a small bowl, mix together salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder, ensuring it's well coated. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes or overnight in the refrigerator for best results.
- 2
Prepare the BBQ Sauce
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir until the mixture is heated through and well combined, about 5 minutes. Set aside.
Cooking
- 3
Cook the Pork
Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Pour half of the prepared BBQ sauce over the pork. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until the pork is tender and easily shredded. If using an oven, wrap the pork in foil and roast at 300°F (150°C) for 4 hours.
- 4
Shred the Pork
Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker or oven. Using two forks, shred the meat into pieces. Discard any large chunks of fat.
- 5
Combine Meat and Sauce
Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker or a large bowl. Add the remaining BBQ sauce and mix well to ensure the pork is evenly coated.
