Preparation of Chicken

Prepare the Chicken
Rinse the whole chicken under cold water and pat it dry with paper towels.

Season the Chicken
In a small bowl, mix together olive oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Rub this mixture all over the chicken, making sure to get under the skin for maximum flavor.
Smoking the Chicken

Prepare the Smoker
Preheat your smoker to 225°F (about 107°C). Use your preferred wood chips, such as hickory or apple, for a smoky flavor.

Smoke the Chicken
Place the seasoned chicken on the smoker and close the lid. Smoke the chicken for about 3-4 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
Making the BBQ Sauce

Combine Ingredients
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.

Simmer the Sauce
Stir the mixture well and bring it to a simmer. Let it cook for about 10-15 minutes until it thickens slightly.
