Bagel Preparation

Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

Mix Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and vegetable oil. Stir until a dough forms.

Knead Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Shape Bagels
Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then poke a hole in the center to form a bagel shape.

Second Rise
Place the shaped bagels on a floured baking sheet, cover them with a towel, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Boil Bagels
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Boil each bagel for 1-2 minutes on each side. Remove and place on a baking sheet.

Bake Bagels
Bake the bagels in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

In a bowl, combine the cream cheese, chopped chives, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until smooth and well combined.
