Method

Cake Layers

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until well combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth (the batter will be thin).

  6. 6

    Pour and Bake

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Fudge Chocolate Icing

  1. 8

    Prepare the Icing

In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat.

  2. 9

    Mix Cocoa and Powdered Sugar

Once melted, remove from heat and whisk in cocoa powder until smooth, then add powdered sugar and mix well.

  3. 10

    Add Milk and Vanilla

Gradually add the milk and vanilla extract, stirring until the icing reaches a spreadable consistency.

  4. 11

    Cool the Icing

Allow the icing to cool slightly before using.

Assembly

  1. 12

    Layer the Cake

Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a generous amount of fudge icing on top.

  2. 13

    Repeat Layers

Add the second layer on top and repeat the icing process, then add the third layer.

  3. 14

    Frost the Top and Sides

Spread the remaining icing over the top and sides of the cake, smoothing it out as desired.

  4. 15

    Serve

Slice and serve the cake, enjoying every rich and chocolatey bite!
