Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Place the long-grain white rice in a fine-mesh sieve or a bowl. Rinse under cold running water for about 2-3 minutes until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Steamer

Fill a large pot or a steamer pot with water, ensuring that the water does not touch the bottom of the steamer basket. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.

  3. 3

    Season the Rice

In a separate bowl, combine the rinsed rice, 4 cups of water, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Stir to combine. If desired, add 2 tablespoons of butter or oil for flavor.

  4. 4

    Steam the Rice

Transfer the rice mixture into a heatproof dish that fits inside the steamer basket. Place the dish in the steamer basket, cover with a lid, and steam for about 30-35 minutes. Check the rice occasionally to ensure it doesn’t dry out; add more water to the pot if necessary.

  5. 5

    Fluff and Serve

Once the rice is cooked and the water has been absorbed, remove the dish from the steamer. Let it sit covered for an additional 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork. Serve warm as a side dish or base for your favorite toppings.
