Baklava Ingredients

Method

Baklava Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Nut Mixture

In a food processor, combine walnuts, pistachios, sugar, and ground cinnamon. Pulse until finely chopped but not powdered. Set aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Filo Pastry

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Melt the butter and brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with some of the melted butter. Layer 8 sheets of filo pastry in the dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.

  3. 3

    Add Nut Mixture

Sprinkle a thin layer of the nut mixture over the filo. Repeat the layering process with 4 sheets of filo, followed by more nuts. Continue this process until all the nut mixture is used, finishing with 8 layers of filo on top, each brushed with butter.

  4. 4

    Cut and Bake

Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes. Bake in the preheated oven for about 50 minutes, or until golden brown.

  5. 5

    Prepare the Syrup

While the baklava is baking, combine honey and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.

  6. 6

    Finish Baklava

Once the baklava is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the cooled syrup over it. Let it cool completely before serving.
