Falafel

Method

Falafel Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Chickpeas

Drain and rinse the canned chickpeas. Place them in a food processor.

  2. 2

    Blend Ingredients

Add chopped parsley, minced garlic, ground cumin, ground coriander, baking powder, salt, and black pepper to the food processor. Blend until a coarse mixture forms.

  3. 3

    Add Flour

Add all-purpose flour to the chickpea mixture and pulse until just combined.

  4. 4

    Form Falafel Balls

Using your hands, form the mixture into small balls or patties, about the size of a golf ball.

  5. 5

    Fry the Falafel

Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Fry the falafel in batches for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

Salad Assembly

  1. 6

    Prepare the Grilled Vegetables

In a bowl, toss halved tomatoes and sliced onion with olive oil, salt, and black pepper. Grill on medium heat until soft and slightly charred, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 7

    Assemble the Salad

In a large serving bowl, layer mixed greens. Top with grilled tomatoes and onions.

  3. 8

    Add Hummus

    Spoon hummus over the salad.

  4. 9

    Add Falafel

Place the cooked falafel on top of the hummus.

  5. 10

    Finish with Dressing

Drizzle with lemon juice and add more salt and pepper to taste.
