Method

For the Afghan Burger

  1. 1

    Prepare the Mixture

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef or chicken, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, cumin powder, paprika, black pepper, salt, and chopped cilantro. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a burger patty. If using an egg, beat it and mix it into the meat mixture before forming the patties for added moisture.

  3. 3

    Cook the Patties

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 75°C (165°F) for chicken or 70°C (160°F) for beef.

  4. 4

    Toast the Buns

While the patties are cooking, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

For the Cilantro Yogurt Sauce

  1. 5

    Mix the Sauce

In a mixing bowl, combine the plain yogurt, chopped cilantro, lemon juice, minced garlic, and salt. Stir well until the sauce is smooth and all ingredients are well incorporated.

For the Sides

  1. 6

    Prepare the French Fries

Cook the French fries according to package instructions or fry them until golden and crispy.

  2. 7

    Warm the Tandoori Naan

Heat the tandoori naan in the oven or on a skillet for a few minutes until warm.

  3. 8

    Serve the Rice

Prepare the rice according to package instructions or use leftover rice that is already cooked.

  4. 9

    Assemble the Salad

In a bowl, toss the mixed salad greens with your choice of dressing and serve immediately.
