Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Clean the Mussels

Rinse the mussels under cold water, scrubbing the shells to remove any dirt or debris. Remove any beards (the fibrous strands) by pulling them away from the shell.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Shrimp

Ensure the shrimp are peeled and deveined. If necessary, rinse them under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.

Cajun Butter Sauce

  1. 3

    Melt the Butter

In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  2. 4

    Add Cajun Flavors

Stir in the Cajun seasoning and lemon juice, mixing well to combine. Cook for another minute to allow the flavors to meld.

  3. 5

    Finish with Parsley

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the chopped parsley. Set aside.

Cooking the Seafood

  1. 6

    Cook the Mussels

In a large pot, add the cleaned mussels and pour half of the prepared Cajun butter sauce over them. Cover the pot and cook over medium-high heat for about 5-7 minutes, or until the mussels have opened. Discard any mussels that do not open.

  2. 7

    Add the Shrimp

Add the shrimp to the pot with the mussels and the remaining Cajun butter sauce. Cover and cook for an additional 3-5 minutes, or until the shrimp are pink and opaque.

Serving

  1. 8

    Prepare the Focaccia

While the seafood is cooking, slice the focaccia bread into serving pieces. If desired, warm it in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 9

    Plate and Serve

Once the shrimp and mussels are cooked, carefully transfer them to a serving platter. Drizzle any remaining Cajun butter sauce over the top. Serve hot with slices of warm focaccia bread for dipping.
