Pasta

Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil the Pasta

In a large pot of salted boiling water, add 2 cups of elbow macaroni. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  2. 2

    Drain and Set Aside

Once cooked, drain the pasta and set aside, making sure not to rinse it, to keep the starch that helps the cheese sauce stick.

Making Cheese Sauce

  1. 3

    Melt Butter

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter.

  2. 4

    Make Roux

Add 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour to the melted butter, whisking constantly for about 1-2 minutes until it forms a paste.

  3. 5

    Add Milk

Slowly pour in 2 cups of milk while whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Continue to cook until the mixture thickens, about 3-5 minutes.

  4. 6

    Add Cheeses

Stir in 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese and 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese until melted and smooth. Season with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of black pepper.

Combining and Baking

  1. 7

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the cooked pasta to the cheese sauce and mix well to ensure all pasta is coated.

  2. 8

    Prepare Topping

In a small bowl, mix 1 cup of bread crumbs, 1 tablespoon of grated Parmesan cheese, and 2 tablespoons of melted butter. Stir until the crumbs are evenly coated.

  3. 9

    Assemble and Bake

Pour the macaroni and cheese mixture into a greased baking dish. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the top. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown.

  4. 10

    Serve

Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your Li'l Original Mac!
