Gnocchi
Bolognese Sauce
Method
Making the Gnocchi
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, flour, egg, and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add more flour, a tablespoon at a time.
- 2
Shape the Gnocchi
On a floured surface, take small pieces of dough and roll them into long ropes. Cut the ropes into bite-sized pieces. Use a fork to press down on each piece to create ridges.
- 3
Cook the Gnocchi
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Gently drop in the gnocchi and cook until they float to the surface, about 2-3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside.
Making the Bolognese Sauce
- 4
Sauté the Vegetables
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- 5
Cook the Meat
Add ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned, about 7-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- 6
Add Tomatoes and Spices
Stir in crushed tomatoes, minced garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Combine and Serve
- 7
Mix Gnocchi and Sauce
Add the cooked gnocchi to the Bolognese sauce and gently toss to coat. Serve hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
