Prepare Tiramisu Base

Whip Egg Yolks
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and granulated sugar until the mixture becomes pale and creamy.

Add Mascarpone
Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese and vanilla extract into the egg yolk mixture until smooth.

Whip Heavy Cream
In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully combined. Set aside.
Prepare Coffee Mixture

Brew Coffee
Brew the espresso coffee and let it cool slightly. If using, mix in the coffee liqueur to the espresso.

Mix Cocoa Powder
In a small bowl, add the cocoa powder and set aside for dusting later.
Layer Tiramisu

Dip Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.

Layer Ingredients
In a rectangular dish, arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers, followed by a layer of the mascarpone mixture. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with the mascarpone on top.

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight to allow the flavors to meld.
Serve Tiramisu

Dust with Cocoa
Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with the reserved cocoa powder.
