Method

Meatballs Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. 2

    Mix Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, dried oregano, and chopped fresh basil. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.

  3. 3

    Form Meatballs

Using your hands, form the meat mixture into 3 equal-sized meatballs, approximately 2 inches in diameter.

  4. 4

    Bake Meatballs

Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through and browned.

Basil Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 5

    Sauté Garlic

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.

  2. 6

    Add Tomatoes

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, salt, sugar, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.

  3. 7

    Simmer Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add chopped fresh basil just before serving.

Assembly

  1. 8

    Combine Meatballs and Sauce

Once the meatballs are cooked, remove them from the oven and place them in the saucepan with the basil marinara sauce. Let them simmer together for an additional 5 minutes.

  2. 9

    Add Cheese

Transfer the meatballs to a serving dish, spooning some of the sauce over them. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.

  3. 10

    Melt Cheese

If desired, place the dish under a broiler for 2-3 minutes to melt the cheese until bubbly and golden.
