Directions

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a medium-sized pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil over medium-high heat.

  2. 2

    Add Spices

Once the water is boiling, add the cinnamon stick, cloves, and orange peel. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes to allow the spices to infuse into the water.

  3. 3

    Add Coffee

After 5 minutes of simmering the spices, add in 1 cup of ground coffee and stir to combine.

  4. 4

    Sweeten the Brew

Gradually add in the piloncillo (or brown sugar) while stirring. Allow it to dissolve completely.

  5. 5

    Simmer

Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for another 10-15 minutes, allowing all flavors to meld together.

  6. 6

    Add Vanilla

Stir in the vanilla extract and simmer for an additional 2 minutes.

  7. 7

    Strain and Serve

Remove the pot from heat and strain the coffee through a fine mesh sieve or coffee filter into cups. Serve hot.
