Calzone Ingredients

Method

Calzone Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pizza Dough

If using store-bought dough, remove it from the packaging and let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes. If making homemade dough, prepare it according to your recipe and let it rise.

  2. 2

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Filling

In a large mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese, salami or pepperoni, diced bell pepper, sliced mushrooms, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.

  4. 4

    Roll Out the Dough

On a floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a large circle about ¼ inch thick. Make sure it's large enough to fold over and enclose the filling.

  5. 5

    Fill the Calzone

Transfer the rolled-out dough onto a parchment paper. Spoon the filling mixture onto one half of the dough, leaving a border of about 1 inch. Fold the other half of the dough over the filling and pinch the edges to seal tightly. Use a fork to crimp the edges for extra security.

  6. 6

    Apply Egg Wash

Brush the top of the calzone with the beaten egg to give it a golden color when baked.

  7. 7

    Bake the Calzone

Carefully transfer the calzone (on the parchment paper) to the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the calzone is golden brown and crispy.

  8. 8

    Cool and Serve

Once baked, remove the calzone from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.
