Preparation

Method

Burger Patty

  1. 1

    Prepare the Burger Patty

In a bowl, mix the ground beef with salt and black pepper until just combined. Form into a patty approximately 1/2 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Cook the Burger Patty

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add cooking oil. Once hot, add the patty and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side until desired doneness is achieved.

Sautéed Onions

  1. 3

    Prepare the Onion

While the burger is cooking, slice the onion into thin rings.

  2. 4

    Sauté the Onions

In another skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté for about 5-7 minutes until they are soft and caramelized.

Assembling the Patty Melt

  1. 5

    Melt the Cheese

Once the burger is cooked, place the Swiss cheese slices on top of the patty and allow them to melt for about 1 minute.

  2. 6

    Assemble the Sandwich

On one slice of rye bread, place the cheeseburger patty, followed by the sautéed onions. Top with the second slice of rye bread.

Grilling the Patty Melt

  1. 7

    Grill the Patty Melt

In the same skillet used for the burger, add a little more butter if needed. Place the assembled patty melt in the skillet and grill over medium heat for about 2-3 minutes on each side until the bread is golden brown.
