Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 2

    Prepare Ramekins

Grease four 6-ounce ramekins with butter and lightly dust with cocoa powder. Tap out any excess cocoa.

  3. 3

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the unsalted butter and semi-sweet chocolate. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, and salt.

  5. 5

    Mix Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the melted chocolate mixture, whisking until smooth.

  6. 6

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the chocolate mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  7. 7

    Fill Ramekins

Evenly distribute the batter among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

  8. 8

    Bake

Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm and the center is slightly soft.

  9. 9

    Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven and let cool for 1 minute. Carefully invert each ramekin onto a plate and gently lift off. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with vanilla ice cream and fresh berries, if desired.
