Gratin Dauphinois Ingredients

Method

Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ingredients

Preheat your oven to 160°C (320°F). Peel the potatoes and slice them thinly using a mandoline or a sharp knife. Finely mince the garlic.

  2. 2

    Make the Cream Mixture

In a mixing bowl, combine heavy cream, milk, minced garlic, nutmeg, salt, and black pepper. Whisk together until well blended.

  3. 3

    Layer the Potatoes

In a buttered baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes. Sprinkle half of the grated Gruyère cheese on top. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.

  4. 4

    Add Butter and Bake

Dot the top of the gratin with small pieces of butter. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour.

  5. 5

    Finish Baking

Remove the foil and increase the oven temperature to 200°C (390°F). Bake for an additional 20-30 minutes, until the top is golden brown and bubbly.

  6. 6

    Serve

Let the gratin cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm as a side dish.
