Method
Cooking Rice
- 1
Rinse the Rice
Place the long-grain white rice in a fine mesh strainer and rinse under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and helps prevent the rice from being sticky.
- 2
Boil the Water
In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil over high heat. Add 1 tsp of salt to the water for flavor.
- 3
Cook the Rice
Once the water is boiling, add the rinsed rice to the saucepan. Stir briefly, then reduce the heat to low. Cover with a lid and let it simmer for approximately 18-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water has been absorbed.
Seasoning the Rice
- 4
Add Butter and Pepper
Once the rice is done cooking, remove it from heat. Add 1 tablespoon of butter and 1 teaspoon of black pepper to the rice. Fluff the rice with a fork to incorporate the butter and pepper evenly throughout.
- 5
Serve
Transfer the peppered white rice to a serving bowl. Enjoy it as a side dish or as a base for your favorite protein and vegetables.
