Chocolate Mousse
Whipped Cream Topping
Method
Chocolate Mousse Preparation
- 1
Melt the Chocolate
In a heatproof bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler) and stir until melted and smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- 2
Whip the Cream
In a separate mixing bowl, whip 300 ml of heavy cream until soft peaks form. Be careful not to overwhip. Gently fold the whipped cream into the melted chocolate until well combined.
- 3
Prepare Egg Mixture
In another bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until pale and creamy.
- 4
Combine Mixtures
Gently fold the egg mixture into the chocolate cream mixture until fully incorporated. Be careful to maintain the airy texture.
- 5
Chill the Mousse
Spoon the mixture into serving cups or bowls. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until set.
Whipped Cream Topping Preparation
- 6
Prepare the Whipped Cream
In a clean bowl, whip 150 ml of heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- 7
Serve the Mousse
Once the mousse has set, remove from the refrigerator and top each serving with a generous dollop of whipped cream. Optionally, garnish with chocolate shavings or berries.
