Calamari Ingredients

Method

Calamari Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Calamari

Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. This will help them crisp up during frying.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In a shallow bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. In another bowl, beat the two eggs. In a third bowl, place the breadcrumbs.

  3. 3

    Bread the Calamari

Dredge each calamari ring in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Dip the floured calamari into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, coat the calamari in breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test if the oil is ready by dropping a small piece of bread into the oil; it should sizzle immediately.

  5. 5

    Fry the Calamari

Carefully add the breaded calamari in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy, turning halfway through for even cooking.

  6. 6

    Drain and Serve

Using a slotted spoon, transfer the fried calamari to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with marinara sauce for dipping.
