Method
Pasta Preparation
- 1
Cook the Spaghetti
In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Meat Sauce Preparation
- 2
Sauté Vegetables
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, diced carrot, and diced celery. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are soft and translucent.
- 3
Brown the Meat
Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- 4
Add Tomatoes and Spice
Stir in the canned tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.
- 5
Simmer the Sauce
Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. The sauce should thicken and flavors meld together.
- 6
Finish with Fresh Basil
Just before serving, stir in the fresh basil leaves.
Assembly
- 7
Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet with the meat sauce. Toss to combine and heat through for 1-2 minutes.
- 8
Serve
Serve hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese.
