Method

Meatballs

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meatball Mixture

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, minced garlic, egg, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until fully combined.

  2. 2

    Shape the Meatballs

Using your hands, shape the mixture into 12-15 meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter.

  3. 3

    Cook the Meatballs

In a large skillet over medium heat, add a little olive oil. Cook the meatballs for 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally until browned on all sides and cooked through.

Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté the Aromatics

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Roasted Garlic Aioli

  1. 6

    Roast the Garlic

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Cut the top off the garlic bulb, drizzle with olive oil, wrap in foil, and roast for 30-35 minutes until soft.

  2. 7

    Make the Aioli

Once cooled, squeeze the roasted garlic cloves into a bowl, add mayonnaise, lemon juice, and salt. Mix until smooth.

Sandwich Assembly

  1. 8

    Assemble the Sandwich

On a slice of focaccia, spread a generous amount of roasted garlic aioli. Top with cooked meatballs, marinara sauce, and slices of mozzarella cheese.

  2. 9

    Finish and Serve

Top with another slice of focaccia, slice in half, and serve with extra marinara sauce on the side.
